Japanese porcelain hit high popularity starting in the 1930s and this lasted well into the 1970s; Japan has been known for centuries for mastering the porcelain and bone china process into a distinct form of art. This lovely Zebra is hand-painted in a rough porcelain finish with lovely detail including smudging to show the shadowing. UTCTI and UCCTI are the same company (it all depends on how you read the label), and they are a Japanese manufacturer and importer to the United States that was founded in the 1950s. The information for this company disappears after the 1980s so I think it is safe to assume they either closed their doors or were absorbed by a competitor. Regardless, this lovely lying Zebra is beautifully made and is a fabulous piece for the collector or safari-lover! C1970s, excellent condition, marked with the gold-foil UTCTI Japan label on bottom, measures 9 ½ inches long x 5 ½ inches tall x 4 inches wide.
