This is a true western tail set in the great plains of America, and our hero is Falcon, son of War Cloud, chief of the tribe. Falcon selects a mare from his father’s herd to be his companion much to the dismay of his father, but that mare has a stunning colt named Shadow who has the blood of a great wild stallion. Falcon begins to train his painted pony slowly and patiently until one day a run in with a hungry mountain lion changes their lives forever. Shadow is forced to go and live with the wild herd of his sire, and the story is about little Falcon’s search for his loved pony. Published in 1942 by Grosset & Dunlap in New York, this is a first edition with intact dust cover, hardcover, 244 pages. Very good condition, the dust cover is not in the best shape but interior of book is excellent. Illustrated by Nils Hogner.
