This lovely horse bit is hand forged and heavy, a long-lost craft with modern bits being much lighter and made via sand casting. The style of bit is called Eggbut and is the most popular type of snaffle bits for horses, and features egg-shaped cheeks and a jointed mouthpiece that makes it more close contact than straight bits and generally used for the English riding disciplines like hunter/jumper and dressage. The metal is an alloy of nickel, bronze and tin and is stamped Made In England on the mouthpiece. Excellent older condition, a nice bit for your collection or the equestrian in your life. This is a 5 inch bit (the part that fits in the horse’s mouth). The actual length of the bit is 11 inches and the eggbut bit attachments measure 3 ¼ inches tall x 3 inches wide.
