This candle came from a factory in Walldurn, West Germany that was founded in 1924, and was very popular with American military families in the 1970s and before; there was a small factory where these were made and you could take a tour and see the candles sitting on the work benches, all white, before the hand painting began. Customers could pick out the ones they wanted before they were packaged. The factory burned in 1999 and there is a medical office where this quaint little factory once stood. The Eternal or ever-lasting candle was developed in the 1970s, a removable top and spring-loaded 1” round white candle inside. This one has been lit, but still has 2 inches left on it. This candle base was hand created and hand painted, showing a hunt scene complete with hunting hounds, mounted rider, and stag that the men are in the process of disemboweling after a fresh kill. The detail is amazing and the colors vibrant- excellent vintage condition. There are 2 stickers on the bottom, one shows WALLDURN BADEN SCHUTZMARKE JOHANN GUNTER WACHSWARENFABRIK with Seit 1924 lightly imprinted (Walldurn Baden trademark Johann Gunter Wax Factory since 1924) and the other shows DIESE KERZE IST GESCHMACKSMUSTER GESCHUTZT (This candle is design protected). C1970s, measures 9 ½ inches tall x 5 inches wide and 16 inches around.
