Freeland McFarlin was founded by Gerald McFarlin and Maynard Anthony Freeman in 1927 and they operated McFarlin Potteries in El Monte, California. Maynard was the artist of the duo and was responsible for the creation of the artistic figurines, some quite large with spans of over 16 inches. Maynard Anythony Freeman’s signature is often found on his designed pieces, as is the case with these foxes. Both partners had sold their interests in the company by 1975 and Hagen Renaker took over their factory and adopted some of their designs through the 1980s. These foxes are finished in gold leaf, with some red showing through and this is not considered a flaw – The red coating under the leaf was used to give the gold leaf a very vibrant color, Signed Anthony c1960s #144 and 145, very good condition with the following note: The taller fox with open eyes has had a professional repair done to the right hind leg, very hard to see and photograph but please be aware it is there.
