This print is richly hand-colored with vibrant fall tones, portraying a quad of carriage horses bolting from the hunters and hounds – this must have happened quite a bit and was probably a spectacle to be seen for those horses not wise to the hunt! Aquatint re-strike engraving in excellent condition, painted by Henry Thomas Alken (1785 -1851) – an English painter who specialized in sporting subjects and coaching scenes. Engraved by J. Harris and published by Mess rs Fores, London in 1850. Presented under glass with bi-level triple matting and wood frame with raised textured edge, eyehook and wire hanger on back. Excellent condition, c1950s, measures 29 ¾ x 24 ¼ inches. Can be paired with “The First Introduction to Hounds” under separate listing.
