Sorry, this item has sold.

The marking WBI stands for the World Banking Institute, which was formed in the 1940s. It was to create jobs and stimulate the economy of underdeveloped nations, similar to what the WPA did for Americans in the 1940s but on a more global scale. The WBI initials started showing up on imported Chinese porcelain in the late 1940s. This mid-century lidded jar is in excellent condition and shows the rich marbling green with hand-painted golden chain and orange strap details, and handsome jockeys astride their horses on both sides. C1970s, 12 inches tall x 20 inch circumference, 4 ½ inch round base.
