Though this fabulous almost-life-sized horse is a little primitive in stature, it is steeped in history and has been witness to the changes in America over the past 70+ years. Though actual dating is hard as records were not kept, what I have found out is that this piece originally came from Ohio and was brought to California in the 1960s and then to Washington State through an antiques dealer in the late 1990s. I was told the original maker was a tradesman who did sculptural commissions for businesses such as restaurants and publishing companies to be used in their marketing promotions, and it appears this horse was one of 6 that were made for a miniature merry-go-round in the 1950s for a state fair or community carnival of some sort. The horses were part of an actual carousel on long metal poles and were rockers more than up and down. I cannot find information about the person who actually made this nor the company they were made for; but this horse is truly a piece of American history. Solid and heavy wood body that has been painted white (probably in the 1980s) with a black painted mane and eyes, black painted hooves, silky cord tail, real leather saddle, bridle and breast collar with silver concho details. Tall metal pole through center that is attached to a weathered wood rocker base. This would make a great accent piece for a rustic home or cabin and is quite heavy – approx. 180 lbs. Will be shipped via freight and on a pallet. Price includes shipping to the lower 48 states via contracted moving company, if you would like to arrange your own shipping a discount will be offered. C 1950s, very good vintage condition, measures 47 inches long x 49 inches high (without pole) x 19 inches wide. With pole the total height is 78 inches.
