With quality compared to Hermes, Louise Fontaine was a famous “maroquinier Sellier” (translates to leather goods saddler) for the Belgian beau-monde (wealthy) of the 1950s and 1960s, and had a high-end store on Avenue Louise in Brussels. Her handbags are no longer made, but can be found at highly procured vintage collections around the world. This fabulous little handbag is exquisite with chestnut-colored smooth leather with rich chocolate velvet center inlay with taupe contrast in front to showcase the perfect English stirrup motif. Structured body with rolled leather trim, gold buckle bridle strap details exterior, top snaps with a squeeze toggle, interior is lined with cinnamon-colored suede, double interior pocket on side, footed bottom. Very good condition with some minor wear to the leather due to age; this handbag does not have the Louise Fontaine signature, but this equestrian line was produced in the 1950s and sold exclusively in Europe – there is one similar I have seen on the market but it was listed in Italy, this design is quite rare. Measures 10 ½ long x 8 tall x 4 ½ inches wide.
