This lovely original oil painting was most-likely painted by an art student or amateur painter, taken by a famous Heywood Hardy painting from the early 19th century. Presented in a lightweight, ornate wood gilded frame and painted on stretched canvas, the subject of the painting is a morning hunt in full cry over fences and through fields, with lovely side-saddle ladies and scarlet-coated gents in the background. Beautifully rendered with strong strokes and colors, this is really a lovely work of art. There is one note for the discerning eye, however – the side-saddle ladies are actually sitting on the wrong side of the horse, but perhaps the artist wanted to show the detail of the saddle girths and straps; however, ladies did not have their legs on the right side of the horse, they were always on the left (the mounting side). The artist signature reads W. Burch, an unknown artist but nonetheless talented. Measures 43 x 31 inches, c1960s.
