Frank Palou was a 19th century artist who specialized in etchings of the country life, and always added a touch of humor to his works. This is a colored print of his 1886 engraving, making humor of the unemployed idle riders who congregate on a winter’s day to exercise the horses and hounds in the town square. Lovely colors and detail, the border of the print show penciled sketches of various aspects of town life and town folks. Signed in lower right, this print was done by Soloman and Whitehead in 1987, and this is no longer an active print. Simple black wood frame under acrylic, measures 21 x 17 inches.
