It is a long-held tradition in Italy to cover porcelain jars and glass bottles with fine leather and other decoupage illustrations; this jar is a lovey example of that craft. Fine ceramic base is covered in red and orange leather with a Victorian hunt scene inlay; top is heavy and insulated so this was most-likely as storage jar. Very good condition with the following notes: The leather shows some water marks on both sides and is separating in one area (see pictures). Label on the bottom reads SMR Italy, c1960s. Measures 6 inches tall x 4 ¾ inches wide/long.
