This beautiful artful image titled “Mort De Desaix A Marengo “celebrates French Military Officer Louis Desaix who served with Napoleon Bonaparte in the campaign of 1800; history tells us that when the campaign was coming to a close Desaix arrived in Italy. Three days later (14 June) detached, with Boudet’s division at Rivalta, he heard the cannon of Marengo on his right. Marching toward the sound he arrived at the moment when the Austrians were victorious all along the line. At the moment of victory Desaix was killed by a musket ball. Boch Freres Keramis was founded by Eugene and Victor Boch in 1841 and was located in La Louviere in Eastern Belgium. The company had a long and successful history until the mid-1980s, and despite purchases and mergers the company is no longer in business. This beautiful plate is from the early 1920s and resembles the works of Villeroy & Boch, another highly collectible brand. Excellent condition with no cracks or damage, made in Belgium. Measures 12 inches around.
