Although there is only one, this handsome horse book end will bring timeless equestrian charm to your bookcase or curio cabinet. The Tilso label was the import division of L. Batlin and Son of New York (1913) that was created after the great depression in the 1930s. Tilso- whose name was derived from the name of names of the owner’s wife and daughter, Tillie and Sophia- was infamous for importing fine gifts and home décor from Japan until they closed in 1976. Although the early Japanese pieces like this were a little rougher than those being made in the USA at the time, they were no doubt charming and are highly collectible today. Beautiful brown glazed bust of a finely turned out saddle horse, white painted blaze, black flowing mane, bridle detail complete with bit and very beautiful artistic expression. Excellent condition, 1930s, made in Japan. Measures 4inches long x 3 inches wide x 6 inches tall
