This handsome pair of bookends was manufactured using Syrocco Wood, which is actually wood pulp and other composite ingredients molded using very high heat to create durability and long wear, virtually indestructible really. All the rage in the early 20th century the process was actually developed in the mid-to-late 1800s in Syracuse, NY. Beautiful equestrian details, mini-frame relief images of a handsome horse head and retriever dog, brown in color and open panels create interest. Metal foot plate, excellent condition with one note: the foot plate is slightly loose on both pieces but still fully functional., made in USA, sold as a pair only, circa 1930s. Each measures 4 ½ inches long x 3 ½ inches wide x 6 ½ inches tall.
