Vintage Polo Player Leather Shin Guards 1930s Antique Polo Leg Protection

Worn to protect the rider’s legs from the long-handled mallets, these fabulous shin guards are trip down memory lane – simple in design and function. Today shin guards are very light weight and made of strong composite materials that protect the rider’s legs much more effectively, but at the time these leather pieces were cutting edge. Thick, stiff leather with top leather buckle and steel shaft insert at bottom to keep everything in place; smooth leather in chestnut brown, unlined, these guards are in very good vintage condition considering the age, but please make note of the following: On one of the guards the finishing strap around the top has come off (it is included in the pair in case you want to get it sewn back on), one of the guards has a reddish/orange paint or lacquer near the bottom and the buckles are rusty though fully functional. C1930s, each measures 12 inches tall, 15 inches around top and 10 ½ inches around bottom.
