The famous Spiegel company was founded in 1865 by Joseph Spiegel and delivered its first mail order catalog to women across America in 1905. A family-owned business for their first 100 years, modern-day Spiegel includes such brands as Eddie Bauer and Newport News, but they have been struggling like many of the past’s behemoth companies, and as of February 2020 their website has been shut down. 1996 was a year that Spiegel created many alliances to promote products and in 1996 worked with Mattel to introduce a limited edition Barbie called the Winner’s Circle Barbie. This Barbie is dressed in an equestrian-themed outfit and is meant to showcase her as a member of the stylish horse-set that was so en-vogue in the mid-to-late 1990s. Barbie is purported to be the owner of a famous show jumper and dons a red coat, black velvet skirt over cotton leggings and two-toned riding boots and gold brocade vest topped with a cravat with gold stock pin. Other details include a black derby with bow, gold earning, stylish shoulder purse and her own stand. Excellent condition in original box and unopened, c 1996, box measures 8 inches wide x 13 ½ inches tall x 3 inches deep.
