This children’s story was first published in Humpty Dumpty Magazine in 1962, then published by William Morrow & Company in 1963. Author Jane Thayer tells the story of Andy who makes a trip to the big city only to see an animal he has never seen before – a horse! From then on whenever Andy went to the big city to shop with his mother he always said hi to Alice, the horse who could only hear Andy and only Andy could hear her. Until one day when there was a loud noise and Andy was not there to explain to her what it was…but Andy was there in the end to save the day! Hardcover, first edition 1963, 48 pages, illustrated by Meg Wohlberg. Book is in great condition with the following notes: Page 3 has a rip (see picture), page 36 has an abrasion (not quite a tear –see picture) and there is some faint children’s pencil writing on the back cover page. This book is extremely rare, a lovely book for the collector!
